He used the escalators to reach the ticket window and as he bought the ticket, he was informed by the electronically preprogrammed voice that the train would be arriving punctually in 1 minute, and after he boarded the centrally air-conditioned train, he checked his schedule on his laptop while talking on the mobile phone. Finally, when he reached his destination, he exited the train station by slipping the ticket in to an electronic barrier and chose to walk the remaining distance to his office. Phew!! Let this be noted, all this use of technology occurred before 9 AM. Times have surely changed.

The relationship between the sacred river and the city is the essence of Varanasi – ‘the land of sacred light’. City of many names, it was first known as Kashi, the city of light. The word ‘Kashi’ originated from the word ‘Kas’ which means to shine. Steeped in tradition and mythological legacy, Kashi is the ‘original ground ‘created by Shiva and Parvati, upon which they stood at the beginning of time.
The city was officially renamed in 1956 as Varanasi, a name from antiquity. Varanasi is the microcosm of Hinduism, a city of traditional classical culture, glorified by myth and legend and sanctified by religion; it has always attracted a large number of pilgrims and worshippers from time immemorial. To be in Varanasi is an experience in itself…an experience in self-discovery…an eternal oneness of the body and soul.

Winter is upon us but does that give you the excuse to stay at home for the next two months? Certainly not, especially if you want to stay in good health and maintain your shape. Winter normally ushers one into physical discomforts like cold, fever, sometimes even depression also; your body increases its fat reserves as a protection against the cold.
In winter, beginner or an intermediate practitioner should practice dynamic yoga, meaning instead of holding a pose for few seconds, one should practice each Shuksham vayama and Asana 2 to 5 times continuously.
Lets practice:
CHEST BREATHING
SPINE EXERCISE
SHIATSU THERAPY
SURYA MUDRA
LINGAM MUDRA
SURYA BHEDI PRAYAMAMA
and follow some Tips To Stay Healthy
During winter, when the weather is cold and dry, the hair really suffers. This is the time of year when we like to sit outside and enjoy the warm sunshine. We use hot water for bathing and washing the hair. These things can actually dry out the hair. For one thing, the hair and scalp lose moisture to the atmosphere, due to lack of humidity. Both sun-exposure and hot water also cause dryness. The hair becomes dry and difficult to manage. It can also develop problems like split ends.
A conditioner helps to give the hair protection and body. A good conditioner works by coating the hair. This adds thickness, strength and body to the hair. Conditioners can contain protein and oils. Some ingredients, like henna, are conditioners too, as they have the ability to coat the hair.

When you drop down on the bed dog-tired, nature energizes your body through sleep. Your pranamaya kosha is nourished and your capacity to breathe improves considerably. It’s this pranashakti that takes away all your fatigue and in the morning when you get up, you feel as fresh as a daisy.
Even missing a few hours of sleep can have an effect. It accumulates over time and it is estimated that a sleep debt of ten hours or more will affect performance. But there’s no need to overdo it. Doctors discovered that sleeping for nine or more hours a night is not necessarily beneficial. Just like having that second slice of cake, or finishing the packet of biscuits, oversleeping is another manifestation of our inherent greed! Stick to the recommended 7 – 8 hours.
We consume dangerous pollutants in our food everyday. Some pollutants can initiate disease and weaken the brain. Other pollutants can weaken the immune system that is the main defense against bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
Pollutants in the soil, such as lead, mercury and arsenic are drawn up through the roots and become part of the plant. The soil becomes polluted when air pollutants fall to the ground as particles or dissolved in rain or when polluted fertilizer is spread on fields. (Some fertilizers contain polluted ash from coal fired power plants and/or toxic materials from sewage plants).Crops also become polluted when farmers apply dangerous chemicals that remain on or in the food when eaten.
Life can sometimes be serious and tiring but a good and hearty laugh is not only welcome by the people around you but also by your mind, body and soul.
Scientific evidence on the effectiveness of humor as a therapy is overwhelming. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. A healthy sense of humor is related to being able to laugh at oneself.
We usually keep popping in pills to get rid of our usual ailments but never think that a thing as simple as laughter can significantly contribute to cure various diseases with our own healing system.
An enthusiastic laugh can help to reduce stress, maintain the right blood pressure, elevate mood, boost immune system, improve brain functioning, protects the heart, fosters instant relaxation, and the list is inexhaustible.
For some people laughter is a serious business because they literally believe in the adage ”laughter is the best medicine.”

Our soul yearns for freedom. It is its very essence. That is why, perhaps, so much emphasis has been laid on this aspect, even in our socio-political environment. Whenever we want to punish someone, we tend to curtail his freedom at various levels. The freedom of movement is what comes first in our mind at a grosser level. Our social values and the whole framework of law are based on the premise of curtailment of freedom through various rules and regulations.
Let us understand the essential meaning of freedom. There are two prepositions which can be attached to the word ‘freedom’. These are ‘freedom of’ and ‘freedom from’. The first one is associated with our rights e.g. freedom of movement, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and so on. These are all very well enshrined in our constitution. Here, we are only discussing about the later aspect i.e. ‘freedom from’.

more...It was this Rumi who taught a new way of performing Zikr. Zikr that is performed in the standing position! Zikr, in which, for the first time music was used within the four walls of Islam.
The way Zikr is done is really nice. Eight to ten people stand in a close circle. Keeping one hand on the other, they place it loosely near the stomach. Now, why in this circular manner? The ney is round; our backbone is also round. So, they stand in a circle and recite the mantra. When they speak deeply, all their energies keep getting collected at one place.
The most beautiful part is when, during the Zikr of Hayee, the sheikh picks up the duf (tambourine) and goes into the center of the circle. He keeps playing his duf and the sound of `Hayee’ carries on with it.
