In the beginning, we are told, “was the word”, but behind the word is an even greater power: the breath

Set realistic expectations from your child without making success or failure the deciding factor of your relationship with him. Create a loving atmosphere at home. Try to spend some relaxing moments with your child everyday by reading books or playing games or cracking jokes.
Most important is to give freedom to express to your child. Let him express his emotions, his fears. Talking his heart out to you will relieve your child. And with this kind of open communication, you’ll know how you can be of help to your child. Give your child, the time and guidance to handle changes in life. Assure him, it is alright to feel low sometimes but at the same time one has to move on. Acceptance and assurance of parents is the biggest encouragement to the child.

Mr Mehta is GM with a company and his wife is working for the government. They have only one (pampered) son. In spite of all kinds of coaching and tutorials he could score only 58% marks in his final board examination. The parents became worried about the carrier of their only son. There were heated arguments in the family as to who had spoiled the child. Mehta now developed insomnia and occasional gastrointestinal problems. He went to his family physician who prescribed him tranquilizers and antacid. Do you think this was the correct medicine for him? Certainly not. This is an example of imposing modern medication rules without due consideration. The kosha model emphasizes each person’s uniqueness and special needs. In modern medicine, different people with the same disease would be treated similarly. The vedic science understands the universe as formed by the five elements - space, air, fire, water, and earth - and they are building blocks of bodies as well. The goal of kosha model is to enhance the level of wellness throughout the course of life.

He takes a light lunch, probably pizza. And then moves onto afternoon meetings and conferences. When evening arrives he calls up his wife to say - “I will be late”. And when he does go back home, through several traffic snarls, he reaches at around 10 to find his children asleep or sometimes waiting for him to finish their homework. Once the action of the day has ceased, they may try to unwind and watch TV - cricket match. Before they know it, they are asleep in their sofa. They head for bed, from where a few hours later, the day starts all over again. If all this is not stress-producing, then what is?

When you drop down on the bed dog-tired, nature energizes your body through sleep. Your pranamaya kosha is nourished and your capacity to breathe improves considerably. It’s this pranashakti that takes away all your fatigue and in the morning when you get up, you feel as fresh as a daisy.
Even missing a few hours of sleep can have an effect. It accumulates over time and it is estimated that a sleep debt of ten hours or more will affect performance. But there’s no need to overdo it. Doctors discovered that sleeping for nine or more hours a night is not necessarily beneficial. Just like having that second slice of cake, or finishing the packet of biscuits, oversleeping is another manifestation of our inherent greed! Stick to the recommended 7 - 8 hours.
Life can sometimes be serious and tiring but a good and hearty laugh is not only welcome by the people around you but also by your mind, body and soul.
Scientific evidence on the effectiveness of humor as a therapy is overwhelming. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. A healthy sense of humor is related to being able to laugh at oneself.
We usually keep popping in pills to get rid of our usual ailments but never think that a thing as simple as laughter can significantly contribute to cure various diseases with our own healing system.
An enthusiastic laugh can help to reduce stress, maintain the right blood pressure, elevate mood, boost immune system, improve brain functioning, protects the heart, fosters instant relaxation, and the list is inexhaustible.
For some people laughter is a serious business because they literally believe in the adage ”laughter is the best medicine.”

Our soul yearns for freedom. It is its very essence. That is why, perhaps, so much emphasis has been laid on this aspect, even in our socio-political environment. Whenever we want to punish someone, we tend to curtail his freedom at various levels. The freedom of movement is what comes first in our mind at a grosser level. Our social values and the whole framework of law are based on the premise of curtailment of freedom through various rules and regulations.
Let us understand the essential meaning of freedom. There are two prepositions which can be attached to the word ‘freedom’. These are ‘freedom of’ and ‘freedom from’. The first one is associated with our rights e.g. freedom of movement, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and so on. These are all very well enshrined in our constitution. Here, we are only discussing about the later aspect i.e. ‘freedom from’.
