Present moment is the key
  • SC: HOW SHOULD ONE DEAL WITH THE PERSON WHO IS TOTALLY NEGATIVE IN THOUGHTS & ACTIONS?
  • ET: Do not become a part of the negativity, by not participating in the dialogue or action. If you too are condemning the action, then you too are becoming like them, where they are behaving and acting out of their unconscious conditioned behavior. You need to simply observe witholisten awarefullyut judging and not get pulled in by emotions.
You then bring in another energy without speaking like they are, but being there listening, yet not uttering any negative statements. Remember not to confuse their behavior with who they are, as they are behaving in that way because they are conditioned to. If a mistake is made, one needs to just state what the mistake is, without condemning, without blaming. What needs to be done has to be done. People keep condemning the fact that it should not be happening but they forget that it is happening again and again. It is very easy to be pulled in by the mind and to become negative. As most times, things do not go according to the plan and then you are reacting with the conditioned mind.
Once you become aware of the mind, you also become aware of the emotional field- the continuous fluctuating emotions which unconscious people are identified with. So they see the mental aspect they are identified with and the emotions accompanying the stream of thinking. Very often, emotions reflect the thought processes. So any negative thoughts create a corresponding emotional energy field. Then the emotion feeds the mind and a vicious circle gets established. Now when there is a strong emotion, you need a little bit of more awareness to become dis-identified with it because it has great power to pull you in. Once emotion has pulled you back in, you are also back in mind and you become emotion and you become the stream of mind.
One needs great presence, a lot of awareness not to respond. It is not easy as one may not succeed every time. You may be midway into your reaction and loose the awareness but that is okay, as long as you are aware. Suddenly you might wake up to the reaction; it is the waking up that is important. It is the ego, that is the unconsciousness that often reacts. For example when people are unconsciously driving a car, why blame them. You need to just move out of the way and not react with equivalent vigor.
  • SC: YOU OFTEN MENTION THAT COMMUNICATION ISN’T JUST WORDS BUT SOMETHING MUCH BEYOND… CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS?
  • ET: This applies to every interaction. When you are talking, mostly you are focused on the words of the other person or the inner words of your own mind i.e. what they are going to reply or what they really want to say. That keeps you trapped on the level of the mind and sooner or later, usually sooner, there is some kind of conflict between the two human beings. So the real communication needs to be apart from the words, which are external thought forms. There needs to be an attention to the space that’s underneath the word which simply arises by listening to other person without any mental commentary.
Be alworld is thereert, still to the other person, who is talking. Then mind becomes simply spacious, open, and aware. That doesn’t mean you are not hearing what the other person is saying, that level still operates but it’s no longer the pre-dominant level. So when you connect with space underneath, the true connection happens. But when there are only words, there is not really a connection. The practice of listening is the greatest practice, a spiritual practice.
  • SC: HOW CAN ONE STAY DETACHED AND BE IN A NO-REACTION STATE?
  • ET: When you are flowing right into the moment, whatever be the situation you may be in, that sense of detachment starts to go through you. You don’t feel attached. Every situation simply passes through you because there is no wall of resistance as there is absolute transparency. When in such a situation the person is getting aggressive but you are actually so detached to that situation, you are letting it flow through you and you are still, very still. Either the person will remove himself/herself from you or the entire structure of the attack mechanism will calm or crumble.
meditation Jesus tried to express this when he gave the parable in a symbolic statement - `When somebody hits you on your cheek, turn the other cheek`. Actually, when somebody hits you on the cheek- you hit back, so you come to the same level as the attacker. But what Jesus is saying is the reversal of that- total no reaction and then unconscious energy which needs resistance can’t sustain itself anymore. It’s a very powerful part- the power of non-resistance. There is an empty space between you and the other person. That is when the other person is in the grip of unconsciousness and is attacking you verbally. It comes from their egoic mind, the outer egoic mind wants some kind of reaction from you because it feeds on it. When it doesn’t get any reaction, it cannot sustain itself for long periods. So through your non reaction, it encounters no resistance, and hence it subsides.
It is only when you touch that dimension, your true self begins to shine. Then when dealing with any situation, one can quite easily look through the mental emotional density of people. One can penetrate it and sense the same reality that one senses in oneself. It is at such a time that one begins to ignore the unconscious behavior of people and forgive them. The true realization of love is experienced, that is the beginning of the awakening.
As this awakening begins to happen, then a sense of detachment, a sense of stillness is experienced. People may be aggressive, rude, or in any heightened emotional state. One does not feel attached to such behavior, as now one feels no wall of resistance. There is a transparency. As your radio frequency is not the same as there’s. You do not respond to such behavior or people. Their aggression does not touch you at all. The aggressive behavior, when in the grip of unconsciousness, wants some reaction. As the egoic mind reacts and feeds from such reactions. When there is no such reaction, they will move away, the action will crumble. It is most normal to react but when the entity does not get any reaction and does not fall to the same level as the attacker, it crumbles.
You no longer have the same frequency. Whatever is the frequency, nothing in you responds to it. It’s like a radio that you can’t tune into, that station does not exist any more. So it just goes through.
  • SC: IS IT POSSIBLE TO MASTER OUR MIND?
  • ET: I wouldn’t say, master the mind, but the mind can become a tool which I believe it’s meant to be. And if you really use this tool in the right sense, it can become your obedient servant. Certainly, to master it, you have to realize that you are not your mind and the awareness needs to be there. From there, the mind becomes the servant of awareness, the servant of greater consciousness. For example, it happens that when I give a talk, the mind comes in because the words are needed to be formulated, so the mind operates. But it is the servant, it listens to what comes from the deeper level, which inspires the mind. Then the mind eventually gives form to it as word but when there is a spiritual talk then the mind is inspired by the deeper consciousness. There is always an energy in the words which comes from the deeper levels. We call those words empowered. And any action that flows from the deeper levels which then the mind translates into a form is also empowered, so the mind is the servant rather than the master. For most people -mind is the master, that’s a dreadful condition to be in.

Message for Readers

Become friendly with the present moment. Do this as the primordial spiritual practice. Realize that there’s no life apart from now and if you are not in alignment with the Now, you are not aligned with life. That means, it’s a state of dysfunction, it’s a state of madness. So anybody who is reading these words, understand that nothing is coincidental. There is a reason why you are reading these words. These words are appearing in your consciousness this moment. So you are ready for this transformation. All that is required is to work in alignment with the present moment. Instead of looking for distant calls like Enlightenment or God, work in alignment with the present moment and you will find Enlightenment and God.

Be totally in the moment-the present moment.
Be ok with what is, whether it is working your way or not.
